Lisa Schreihart is a Registered Patent Attorney, a Certified Patent Practitioner®, and a former United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) Patent Examiner in the electrical and software arts. Her more than 20 years of engineering and technical leadership experience prior to transitioning to the legal world informs her patent law services and provides exceptional value to clients over the patent life cycle. She focuses her legal practice on patent drafting and prosecution, complex Office Action strategy, post-grant proceedings, including ex parte reexaminations and inter partes reviews (IPRs), and patent monetization and litigation support.
Lisa previously served as a Patent Examiner in USPTO Technology Center 3600 (Business Methods), examining applications involving data processing, financial systems, and cryptography. Her insider understanding of examination practice informs her prosecution strategy, enabling her to anticipate rejections, navigate 35 U.S.C. §101 subject matter eligibility challenges, build strong written description support under §112, and understand complex nuances of prior art assertions under §§102/103.
Her technical background spans electrical engineering, avionics systems, software, wireless communications, AI, augmented and virtual reality, semiconductors, medical devices, automotive systems, financial technologies, blockchain, and data-intensive platforms. She began her career as a project engineer and senior systems engineer at Rockwell Collins (now RTX’s Collins Aerospace), where she led systems and project engineering efforts for advanced military communications systems for air, sea, and ground applications.
Lisa holds J.D. (magna cum laude), MBA (High Distinction), and B.S./M.S. (Electrical Engineering) degrees. She is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and before the USPTO and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Lisa has presented nationally on patent law, including for the National Association of Patent Practitioners (NAPP), the National Council on Patent Practicum (NCPP), USPTO groups, law firms, and bar associations, focusing on §101 subject matter eligibility and patent examination strategy.
Lisa serves on the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) Quarterly Journal Editorial Board, is an elected Steering Committee member of the nationwide DC Bar IP Law Community, and is actively involved in the Patent Trial & Appeal Board (PTAB) Bar Association and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
