Why We Start With an Evaluation

Most patent attorneys skip this step and go straight to filing. We think that is backwards. Until someone has searched what already exists, nobody can honestly tell you whether your idea can be patented, or whether the patent would be worth owning.

So we start here. We learn the invention properly, and we learn why you want protection in the first place, because a patent is only worth having if it does something for the business. Then we research against that and give you a straight answer. If the answer is that you should not file, we will tell you that.

This first step is valuable because it ensures we:

01

Do the right research for you

02

Give you the right advice about obtaining a patent

03

Honestly discuss how patent protection will support your goals

What You Get

You deal with the attorney handling your case, not an account manager. The price is a flat fee agreed before any work starts, so you know the exact investment up front. And the evaluation is what tells you whether to go further at all.

A meeting with your attorney

You sit down with the patent attorney who will handle your case. This is where he learns about the invention and what you need it to do for your business.

A full prior art search

Our attorneys comb the public record for inventions close to yours, so any legal hurdle surfaces now rather than two years into an application.

A findings session

Your attorney walks you through what the search turned up, compares it against your idea, and tells you whether a patent is worth pursuing and which type to file.

Prior Art, and Why It Decides Everything

Prior art is everything already in public that shows an invention is known: earlier patents, products on the market, published papers. Whether your idea clears it is what decides if a patent is possible at all.

Our attorneys have been doing this research for decades. We would rather find the hurdles now, while you can still change course, than after you have paid to file. If we see a problem, you hear about it.

What you walk away knowing

The flat fee includes a final consultation with one of the patent attorneys. In it you cover:
